Scientists from 12 out of 14 RTPS centres participated in addition to the NICRA associates from NCIPM. Director Dr. OM Bambawale inaugurated the workshop with his introductory remarks. Presentations on ‘NICRA outline with project expectations’ by Dr. MS Rao and ‘progress of RTPS and requirements’ by Dr. S.Vennila were made.

Architecture of the software developed under the project for data capture from RTPS centres of rice and tomato incorporating the respective data recording formats was explained with its live demonstration by Shri. Niranjan Singh. Features and use of Geographical Positioning System (GPS) was demonstrated by Shri. Kanojia. Hands-on training on the software to all the participants from the RTPS centres was imparted. GPS units were distributed for each of the centres.

Technical progress made in respect of RTPS centres was reviewed during the second day chaired by DR. OM Bambawale and co-chaired by Dr MS Rao. Crop co ordinators and team leaders of rice (Dr Jhansilakshmi (DRR, Hyderabad) & Dr RK Tanwar (NCIPM)) and tomato (V Sridhar (IIHR, Bengaluru) & Dr HR Sardana (NCIPM)) summarised the specific progress and immediate requirements for RTPS under the crops. Work plan for the XII plan relating to RTPS was also discussed. Workshop ended with concluding remarks by Director, NCIPM.
