  • Training cum Workshop on Real Time Pest Surveillance (RTPS) in respect of pigeonpea and groundnut crops was held during 15th and 16th March, 2012 at NCIPM, New Delhi.
  • Ten associates from nine RTPS centres of pigeonpea, and ten form six groundnut RTPS centres participated in the training cum workshop in addition to 19 NICRA associates including scientists and contractual staff of NCIPM. Dr Dr. MS Rao from the NICRA lead centre CRIDA also participated.
  • Only the Bengaluru RTPS pigeonpea centre did not participate in the workshop.
  • Director Dr. OM Bambawale inaugurated the workshop on 15th March 2012 with his introductory remarks emphasising the importance of the interactive workshops for achievement of project targets, and the solid foundation laid for RTPS under NICRA. Presentation on ‘NICRA outline with project expectations’ was made by Dr. MS Rao. Dr S.Vennila PI NICRA at NCIPM presented the updated progress of RTPS centres relating to pigeonpea and groundnut.
  • Geographical Positioning System (GPS) units procured for the RTPS centres were distributed to 15 of the centres and their features were explained with demonstration.
  • Architecture of the software developed under the project for data entry by RTPS centres of pigeonpea and groundnut incorporating the respective data recording formats was explained with its off line and on line features through demonstration by Shri. Niranjan Singh and S Sathyakumar.
  • All participants undertook hands-on training on the software in their respective target crops.
  • On 16th March 2012, technical and financial progress made in respect of RTPS centres were reviewed under the chairmanship of DR. OM Bambawale. DR MS Rao (CRIDA), DR S. Vennila (NCIPM), crop co ordinator cum and team leader of pigeonpea , DR OP Sharma (NCIPM, New Delhi) and team leader of Groundnut (DR Saroj Singh) reviewed the progress along the lines of adherence to surveillance plan and procedures, historical data relating to pests and weather, highlights of pest scenario, financial progress and source of weather data.
  • The Finance and Account officer of NCIPM also addressed the participants and clarified the doubts of RTPS members relating to expenditure under NICRA.
  • All the centres were requested to submit the utilisation certificate and SoE on time, besides return of unspent balance or the saving under NICRA to NCIPM immediately after March 31st 2012. Workshop ended with concluding remarks by PI (NICRA), NCIPM, New Delhi .
